Hydrologist and Water Resources Engineer

Biography

Dr. E. J. James is a distinguished Indian hydrologist and water resources expert with extensive experience in groundwater hydrology, watershed management, and sustainable water resource planning. He served as Professor and Head of the Department of Hydrology at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), where he contributed significantly to research and academic training in hydrology and water resources engineering.

Dr. James also served as the Director of the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode (Calicut), a premier research institution under the Government of Kerala dedicated to water resource research and management. During his tenure, he played an important role in advancing research on groundwater recharge, watershed management, and integrated water resource management.

In addition, he served as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (Karunya University), Coimbatore, where he contributed to academic leadership and research development.

Dr. E. J. James has published numerous research papers in national and international journals and has guided several doctoral scholars in the field of hydrology and environmental science. He has also served as a consultant and advisor to governmental agencies and international organizations on water resource management and environmental planning.

Through his research, teaching, and policy engagement, Dr. E. J. James has made significant contributions to advancing scientific understanding of water systems and promoting sustainable and equitable management of water resources.
