Geographical Restrictedness of Species and Climate Resilience: Insights from the Endemic Cold-blooded Vertebrates of the Western Ghats, India

R. J. Ranjit Daniels

Abstract

This paper examines the distribution of endemic cold-blooded vertebrates in the Western Ghats. Analysis of 454 endemic vertebrate species indicates high local endemism concentrated south of 13 degrees north, and identifies hill streams, fish and amphibians as important subjects for understanding local bioclimate and climate resilience.
